THE INSPIRATION OF THE REGION

Water is the element that characterizes the very heart and soul of Venice. It is no coincidence that the most spectacular festivity in this historic city, the "Regata Storica" takes place on the waters of the Grand Canal. This sensational event includes a procession of beautifully decorated 16th century style boats and hundreds of people in elaborate costumes. The festival commemorates the welcome given to Caterina Cornaro, wife of the King of Cyprus, in 1489 after she renounced her throne in favor of her dear City of Water, Venice.

Seen rising above the Grand Canal are the domed tops of one of the best known examples of Byzantine architecture in the world, the Basilica di San Marco. It is the most famous of the city's churches and is the cathedral of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Venice.
